Building SQL (SSAS) Tabular Models typically
requires the use of tools designed for IT developers with deep experience with
SQL, DAX, etc. In addition, maintaining or making improvements to tabular models, like
adding hierarchies to any dimension or creating financial models, adds another
layer of difficulty to the process.
Tabular Modeler changes all of that. Citizen
developers can quickly and easily create and maintain high performance,
scalable and secure tabular models, without the need for IT support, that can
be used for any type of financial or business operations application.
How does it work?
Build Tabular Models: Any citizen developer can build
tabular models by using the easy-to-use, drag and drop U/I to add/combine
dimensions in the tabular model. Much of the process is automated. If further calculations are needed, Custom
Measures can be created. Data can then be loaded directly to the model via
.xlsx or .csv files.
Set-up User Security: The Tabular Modeler has Administrator
and Report Consumer named user types that each get assigned data and functional
level security. Admin users have access to all features of the Tabular Modeler,
while Report Consumers are subject to the security levels specified by the
Admin.
Develop and Deploy Reports: Reports can then be created and
deployed using Power BI, Excel Pivot Tables, or any other tool that can consume
SSAS tabular data. Advanced features such as automatically structuring general
ledger accounting data or, the ability to report and analyze data across
multiple chart of accounts, makes financial reporting a breeze.
