Import from Excel

The Import from Excel extension enables import of data in Business Central using templates created in Microsoft Excel. This includes importing Master Data as well as Transactional Data, such as Sales Documents, Purchase Documents, and Journals.

The extension supports predefined file formats (static imports) for Master Data and General Journals; and ad hoc custom file formats (dynamic imports) for Journals and Purchase/Sales Documents. Dynamic imports support transformation rules and defaulting missing values, minimising the need to manipulate data in Excel.

Importing from predefined Excel templates

1. Import Item from Excel: Allows users to import item data, including item codes, descriptions, prices, and other details, directly from an Excel file into the system.
2. Import Resources from Excel: Facilitates the import of resource information such as resource names, types, costs, and availability from an Excel spreadsheet.
3. Import Vendors from Excel: Enables the import of vendor details, including vendor names, contact information, payment terms, and addresses, from an Excel file.
4. Import Customers from Excel: Allows users to import customer data, including customer names, contact details, billing addresses, and credit limits, from an Excel file.
5. Import FA Journal from Excel: Facilitates the import of Fixed Assets journal entries, including asset codes, descriptions, acquisition dates, and values, from an Excel spreadsheet.
6. Import Job/Tasks from Excel: Enables the import of job and task details, such as job codes, descriptions, start and end dates, and assigned resources, from an Excel file.
7. Import Fixed Assets from Excel: Allows users to import fixed asset information, including asset codes, descriptions, acquisition costs, and depreciation details, from an Excel file.
8. Import Job Journal from Excel: Facilitates the import of job journal entries, including job codes, descriptions, costs, and revenues, from an Excel spreadsheet.
9. Import Item Journal from Excel: Enables the import of item journal entries, including item codes, descriptions, quantities, and values, from an Excel file.
10. Import G/L Journal from Excel: Allows users to import General Ledger journal entries, including account codes, descriptions, debit and credit amounts, from an Excel file.
11. Import Job Budgets from Excel: Facilitates the import of job budget details, including job codes, budgeted costs, and revenues, from an Excel spreadsheet.
12. Import G/L Accounts from Excel: Enables the import of General Ledger account information, including account codes, descriptions, and account types, from an Excel file.
13. Import Access Controls from Excel: Allows users to import access control settings, including user roles, permissions, and restrictions, from an Excel file.
14. Import Dimension Values from Excel: Facilitates the import of dimension values, including dimension codes, descriptions, and related values, from an Excel spreadsheet.
15. Import Job G/L Journal from Excel: Enables the import of job-related General Ledger journal entries, including job codes, account codes, descriptions, and amounts, from an Excel file.

Import from dynamically defined Excel files

Import from Excel with Dynamic Columns: This functionality allows users to import data with dynamic columns into various modules such as General Journal, Sales Quotes/Orders/Invoices/Credits, and Purchase Orders/Quotes/Invoices/Credits. Users can map Excel columns to the corresponding fields in the system, ensuring flexibility and accuracy in data import.
