PwC Portfolio Rationalisation

PricewaterhouseCoopers UK

The objective of PwC's portfolio rationalisation is to simplify your portfolio to reduce the cost and complexity of your environment. Many companies have redundant tools that cost them time and money.

PwC’s Portfolio Rationalisation service assesses your organisation’s current cyber security maturity (using the NIST Cyber Security Framework) against strategic business needs and goals. As part of that discovery, a detailed analysis of current security solutions, their consistency of deployment and relative exploitation of capability is mapped. PwC then use their broad cyber security operations and solutions knowledge to both identify ways to optimise use of existing controls and to explore options to exploit a Microsoft E5 subscription.

E5 subscriptions offer clients the potential benefits of an integrated platform for Cyber Security. With a platform approach, the goal is less about having best of breed solutions for every control based on specific business, service, user or data risk, and more about having consistent, fit for purpose and integrated controls across the enterprise. That consistency optimises security process and reduces both skills requirements and complexity. This significantly reduces operational cost and risks associated with both end users and administrative staff. In many cases, clients invest in best of breed solutions that have features that appear clever but either offer little benefit for them or add such complexity that they are never implemented effectively. The fit for purpose element ensures any considered controls meet the efficiency and effectiveness needs of your business, both now and in the foreseeable future.

It’s important to note that Portfolio Rationalisation isn’t about replacing all existing effective solutions with those of another vendor. It is about exploring ways to benefit from Microsoft’s cyber security platform, whilst integrating current and other third-party solutions to deliver cost savings, operational efficiencies and risk reduction. PwC provide an independent assessment and guidance on how organisations can benefit from Microsoft's technical and commercial offerings based on the client's specific requirements and strategy.

Assessments can lead to:

Development of a detailed business case for Portfolio Rationalisation around an existing Microsoft E5 subscription. Provide a detailed programme plan to implement a Microsoft E5 security platform that integrates key third-party solutions. Identify areas to consolidate and reduce investments in other security technologies and utilise Microsoft 365 in place of other technologies. Provision of anonymised benchmarking information on how peers are adopting the E5 suite.
