Advanced Power BI connector for BC

The Advanced Power BI connector for BC allows you to connect to Microsoft Business Central Cloud (hereafter BC) via APIs and pull data from BC for various purposes – ex. for using in reporting with Microsoft Power BI.

The Advanced Power BI connector for BC contains several APIs each with data based on BC fields and the data stored herein. The APIs are limited to only allowing pull requests from BC and cannot be used for push requests to update BC.

The APIs can be used via simple web requests with or without filters. Also, the Dynamics 365 Business Central Connector can be used with APIs.

The App contains two types of APIs – APIs based on Pages or Queries. Each API is based on one BC table but differs on content as APIs based on Pages also contains calculated fields were as APIs based on Queries does not.

The APIs only contains the standard table fields – fields added to the BC environment are not included. If such fields are requested a new API must be built using the Symbolics from this specific Tenant.

Using the APIs with Microsoft Power BI

When using the APIs with Microsoft Power BI, data can be pulled from BC via both the Dynamics 365 Business Central Connector and the Web Connector.

When using the Dynamics 365 Business Central Connector to pull data from Power BI the filtering of data is done within Microsoft Power BI after loading the data. On the other hand pulling data using the Web Connecter allows the user to filter data when pulling data, which can be more effective on performance.
