What is a Bowtie Diagram?
Bowtie diagrams are used to visualise the chain of events where a hazard materialises into an event with potential for harm. As such, they are a key tool for understanding and managing risk, and are widely used in many industries, including:
- Industrial process
- Petrochemical, Oil and Gas
- Aviation
- Rail
- Medical
- Finance
- IT
The Bowtie Diagram represents multiple possible causes of an incident and evaluates the controls in place to make it less likely to occur. If it does occur, you should have measures to reduce the various impacts. These are represented on the right hand side of the diagram.
Easy to use and share
Our approach is to make it easy for you to develop and share your work with the right people, using the technology which you likely already have at your workplace. It is simple to control who can read or edit the diagrams, using standard SharePoint permissions.
The free version gives you all the tools you need to create unlimited starter diagrams. If you need to create large diagrams, or access advanced features such as import/export and reporting, then contact us for a licence key.

Deployment notes:
- The solution has to be added manually to each site as it will not deploy to the complete tenant
- The solution can be added to multiple sites within the tenant (begin with 'Only Enable This App', then add to each site individually)
- Either:
- Add the web part on a standard SharePoint Site Page; or
- Create a Single Part App Page (using PowerShell)
- Select the data source (or add a new one) via the properties pane
- Also in the properties pane, you can enter your licence key to access additional features
