by Office Solution
A Fishbone chart identifies causes of a problem, categorized into branches, for root cause analysis.
Fishbone Chart by Office Solution
The fishbone chart, also known as an Ishikawa or cause-and-effect diagram, is a visual tool used to systematically identify and present the potential causes of a specific problem or effect. It is called a Fishbone Chart because its structure resembles the skeleton of a fish.
Structure of a Fishbone
- Head (Effect/Problem): The head of the fish represents the problem or effect that needs to be analyzed. This is typically placed on the left/right side of the diagram.
- Spine: A horizontal line (spine) runs from the head to the right side of the chart, representing the main flow from causes to effect.
- Bones: Angled lines (major bones) branch off from the spine, each representing a major category of potential causes.
- Sub-Bones: Smaller branches (sub-bones) extend from each major bone, representing detailed sub-causes or specific factors within each major category.
Basic Features:
- Visual Clarity: The visual can be clearly visible and used for the identification of causes/main-causes.
- Size: The chart is resizable and dynamic in nature according to the size as well as the fish-size, bone size (stroke width).
- Dynamic Data Handling: Capable of managing large datasets with ease, ensuring smooth performance and quick rendering.
- Customizable Dimensions: The chart dimensions can be adjusted to fit various screen sizes and layouts, ensuring flexibility and adaptability.
- Colors: The colors of the chart can be customized from the visual settings under the visualization pane.
- Text Size: The text size of texts can be dynamically and easily handled by the user.
