Heidi AI for Higher Education is a cloud-based supercomputing platform designed to make high-performance computing (HPC) and artificial intelligence (AI) accessible and affordable for educational institutions. It provides students and educators with powerful infrastructure, preloaded datasets, and industry-standard tools, enabling hands-on learning in computational science, AI development, and STEM education. With support for over 150 open-source applications, including TensorFlow, PyTorch, and Keras, Heidi offers a scalable and intuitive environment for students to explore advanced computational concepts.
Designed to be cost-effective, Heidi is available at a per-student price lower than the cost of a textbook. It integrates seamlessly with existing on-premises data centers and cloud environments, featuring the On-Demand Data Center (ODDC) for automated infrastructure deployment. Through partnerships with leading scientific organizations, including those funded by the U.S. Department of Energy, Heidi equips educators with the resources needed to prepare students for future careers in AI, data science, and engineering.
The platform simplifies the deployment of HPC and AI clusters while ensuring secure and reliable access. It supports specialized hardware such as GPUs and high-speed network adapters and integrates with workload management systems like Slurm, Moab/Torque, and MPI environments. By offering a customizable curriculum, built-in analytics, and teacher training, Heidi enhances the learning experience while fostering collaboration and interdisciplinary applications across subjects such as physics, biology, data science, and environmental studies.
Students using Heidi can engage in real-world simulations, from climate modeling and space exploration to genomics and AI-driven applications. The platform's accessibility via any web browser ensures seamless integration into classrooms, and its flexible pricing model allows schools to scale resources as needed. With a mission to provide every student with access to a personal supercomputer, Heidi empowers learners of all backgrounds to develop critical computational skills and prepare for careers in science and technology. Starting in 2026, Heidi will also offer AI Excellence Scholarships, awarding up to $50,000 to student teams for innovative AI projects.
