Data classification and labelling in Information Protection. We guide the creation of the classification policy and implement data labelling in Microsoft 365 based on discovered data types.
Using Microsoft Information Protection, our Data Classification and Labelling solution allows for full knowledge of and control over you data in Microsoft 365 and Azure. It provides the foundation for other important security controls such as Data Leakage Prevention and Insider Risk control.
Our project consists of 12 steps in 4 phases:
Phase 1: identification of data. We investigate the business needs and find out what type of data resides in your Microsoft 365 environment. We create a data classification plan that conforms to your business.
Phase 2: Define and build. We define sensitive information types from our investigation and use AI to find other data types. We set up the Microsoft Information Protection environment, the labelling scheme and policies.
Phase 3: Rollout and adoption.We roll-out the policies in agreement with you to pilot groups. We expand to enroll all users. The focus is on Manual Labelling.
Phase 4: Automation. We automate the labelling of data based on what the manual labelling has taught us. We use suggested labelling to guide the users and we automate the labelling of large datasets.
When this is set up, you can start planning further technology enablement, such as Data Leakage Prevention and Insider risk protection. It is also a first step towards mature data governance.
The end of the project should lead to a continuous evaluation of the situation: improving the labelling and controlling non-compliance.
