Surge Planning, Bed Management, and Ventilator Capacity for COVID-19 Response

With the unprecedented surge in patient volumes, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, KenSci stands committed to delivering insights that might aid in flattening the curve through prevention, outreach and better planning. 

Built in collaboration with pulmonologists, nurses and CMIOs of large health systems handling COVID-19, our Command Center enables health systems to have a realtime view into bed management and capacity planning, to provide novel coronavirus affected patients, with better care. 

The Mobile Command Center leverages existing HL7 feeds from EHRs, along with additional data sources like workforce management to provide status on familiar KPIs. The solution includes three main capabilities:

  1. Community Risk Stratification
    • Identifying patients at high risk: A community risk stratification tool that helps hospitals leverage a Population and Cohort Analyzer to identify members in the community that are at greatest risk for community acquired COVID-19, based on prior utilization history, comorbidities and Social Determinants of Health (SDOH). 
  2. Surge Planning
    • Planning for patient volumes: Surge planning for counties and hospitals. Scenario planning, based on local case, market share and population data, to predict peak capacity requirements for beds, ventilators etc.
  3. Real-time Bed Management & Ventilator Tracking
    • Tracking patient capacity: Leveraging HL7 ADT feeds and EMR data, enable real-time hospital census and capacity tracking to help plan for patient placement, safe discharges, and prevent bottleneck. Planning and Tracing Ventilators in use through real time Hl7 ORM and OSU feeds, as well as EMR Flow sheets

With the deployment of the Realtime Command Center, KenSci is also deploying the SMART on FHIR based Data & AI Accelerator, which creates a ongoing pipeline of real-time data from EMR and Claims data onto Azure and in FHIR format for further downstream AI workloads. KenSci and Microsoft have predefined key technical requirements to ensure that the infrastructure and technology required to deploy in less than 7 days are in place, in your Azure tenant.
