Business Central’s Dimensions
Dimensions is a filtering feature that allows you to slice and dice your data the way you need it. Out of the box, Business Central provides 8 shortcut dimensions, but only 2 of those are global dimensions. Global dimensions are especially powerful for accounting because they filter/analyze your data across all your modules in Business Central. Shortcut dimensions are limited to a single module.
Limitations of Business Central’s Dimensions
Once you start using Business Central, you may soon start to feel the limitations of having only 2 global dimensions. For example, if you’ve assigned ‘branch office’ and ‘dept.’ as your global dimensions,, you’re already maxed out. But it’s likely you’ll want to see your data sliced in other ways (such as by customer group).
