Mileage Tracker

by Microsoft Corporation

Mileage Tracker tracks vehicle travel. Useful for taxes, billing, or just calculating use.

This app may be installed on an Office 365 “For Business” site or any SharePoint installation that is running SharePoint 2013 with Access Services turned on.

Miles Log is a basic app for tracking vehicle travel by entering odometer readings. Useful for taxes, billing, costing, or just calculating business use, it can track information for multiple user, vehicles, customers or other measures. Even though it is call “Miles Log” it can track any units (Kilometer, Nautical miles, steps …). The simple interface only requires a minimum of one field be entered to record a trip. Reports are built-into this SharePoint app which is created with Microsoft Access 2013. The design is open so you can extend the app or just use it to learn to create your own apps.

There are many business activities that require a vehicle logbook and paper logbooks have significant shortcomings like no data validation, calculations, access control, backup, auditing, central storage and so on. This on-line app assumes the default vehicle (with its’ last odometer reading), traveler and customer. So most entry activity is to enter the new odometer reading and check the default values. The system knows the date and who is entering the data. So a traveler with a mobile device could quickly access this app and enter minimal data when arriving at a location.

The app has four relational tables, a set of macros tied to events, queries and views. There is no code.
