Route Map is a custom visual for Power BI that displays origin–destination routes on an interactive map. It’s built for analysts and operations teams who need to see how things move between locations—shipments, commuters, network flows, or any origin–destination pattern—directly in Power BI. Traditional map visuals struggle to show movement between points. Route Map draws clear paths with width scaling, category-based colors, selections, and tooltips so you can spot patterns, bottlenecks, and anomalies fast. ✨ Key features - 🗺️ Curved or straight-line routes between origins and destinations - 🔎 Interactive selection and cross-highlighting with other visuals - 🎨 Category-based coloring and dynamic line-width scaling - 📍 Optional bubbles at origin/destination with size scaling - 🧰 Native Power BI tooltips; ♿ high-contrast and accessibility support - 🌐 Map providers: OpenStreetMap (free) or Azure Maps (enterprise) 📌 Common use cases - Visualize transportation or supply chain routes - Analyze delivery performance across regions - Track people or product movement over time - Show directional flows between connected sites or facilities 🧩 Requirements & limitations - Requires Web Access to retrieve map tiles from the selected provider (OpenStreetMap or Azure Maps). - Because Web Access is required, the visual is not Power BI Certified; certain Power BI features are unavailable for non-certified visuals. - OpenStreetMap usage follows community service levels and OSM policies; for production, prefer Azure Maps. 🧾 Licensing options - Free build (OpenStreetMap): Suitable for evaluation and non-enterprise scenarios; no SLA. - Enterprise build (Azure Maps): Microsoft-backed terms/SLA, higher reliability/performance.
