Visio Visual

A modern (especially multilingual) report uses calculation groups and field parameters. In the current version of this visual, as soon as you have one in the model, you cannot use measures reliably anymore. Also Field Parameters make the visual behave strangely, always jumping back and forth between "text" and "colour". Dynamic Formatting of numbers or colouring by a measure is also not accepted, which makes it pretty useless for many cases. Please MS update the visual in the near future, as it is currently only suitable for the very basic needs.

The included add in visuals are valuable to create everything from computer diagrams, to manufacturing equipment floor plans. Within the app several advanced features include capability to export the visuals to create custom Power BI dashboard visuals.

You need to have a Ready and Published Visio Diagram to use. Even if I have the Diagram saved locally, I can not use it

Doesn't seem to be any way to pass formats through to the visual. I have my values set up as decimal numbers, and Currency as £ English selected, but only the numbers pass through, without formatting. 261745283.12 should show £261,745,283.12.

I was looking for way to visualize a VSM or pipeline from visio and this app seemed perfect at first. However there was only a single way to set up rules for color coding (one set of value ranges that would apply consistently across the whole diagram). This might work for some use cases, but I needed different rules for different VSM stages based on different fields, and current functionality couldn't do that from what I could see. I'm holding on to the app in case I have a use case for it, since it really is neat and might be useful down the road, but otherwise I'm holding out for additional functionality.

I can't get Visio desktop on to my new computer.

1) Note that this is not Visio - you have to have that separately in order to create/edit your diagram. You will also need to know how to work with Shape Data in Visio so you can assign the IDs to the individual shapes. 2) Once you've got a diagram, you need to have it stored somewhere with a web-based URL (e.g. SharePoint) - you can't use a file:// type URL to connect. Also it seems to be very fussy about exactly how that URL works - it took me several attempts before I managed to get it right - you can't just link to the file, you have to link to an "embedded" version of it. 3) Once you've actually got your diagram loaded all you can get Power BI to do is to either write a bit of text on each shape (based on the value of a field) or colour the shape based on a numeric range. I had expected that you would be able to link the values in your data source to shape data properties in order to take advantage of Visio's ability to manipulate shapes based on data. However that doesn't seem to be possible. So - in summary - a bit fiddly to get to work, and when you do the functionality is really very limited. It may be fine if it happens to cover what you need, but wasn't any good for what I wanted.

After buying yet another licence and chasing Microsoft Support for nearly a month we gave up and chose an alternative product.

I was never able to download, successfully install, and use Visio. I contacted GoDaddy - who is my Office 365 provider and they could not assist. I also contact MS tech support via email and no one ever returned my message. Unacceptable!
